This Still Life

by Nancy Sawa

Poems of life weaving in and through the fairy tales we grew up on .

"It’s all about story, the stories we tell ourselves and each other.

During the last 10 years, a group of us have met together to discuss fairy tales in the light of Jungian psychology…a fruitful gathering. These stories are played out in our own lives, over and over again. "       Nancy Sawa

Born in Santa Monica, California, Nancy Sawa grew up in the eastern United States near Washington, D.C. She came to Canada in 1969 on a student visa and received her Masters Degree in English from the University of Toronto in l970. She emigrated to Canada that year and earned her living as an advertising researcher and copywriter until l978 when she moved to Calgary with her family. They have lived here ever since.

This Still Life is Nancy's first solo poetry chapbook. Currently she is working on series of interlocking tales that threatens to explode out of control at every turn.  She’ll see where it all leads once the characters stop talking.

From This Still Life:

Tell me a story

Tonight I need to know
That somewhere in some wood
There stands a tiny house
And garden fenced with twigs
Where winter never comes.
